Specialists in health and medicine distributors are visited daily by hundreds of foreign patients for medical visits, surgery or medicine purchases, generating an important amount of dollars for Tijuana.

TIJUANA.- In Baja California there is a total of 419 hospitals, 2 567 general doctors, 612 specialists, 1 005 orthodontists, and 534 laboratories, the same that are visited everyday by patients considered as medical tourism, which is nothing else than traveling around the world to receive health services of the same or better quality, with a better price than they would have in their own city or country of origin.

This not only implies dollars to the health sector, but an important mean of income to the local tourism industry, due to that, the patients generally stay one or two nights in Tijuana, consume meals and make various purchases before returning home.

How is it in Baja California

Currently according to information from the Baja California Secretary of Tourism health tourism generates an annual expenditure of $ 3.1 billion dollars (including products and medical, dental, pharmaceutical and tourism related services), with more than 350 000 monthly visits.

Tijuana has a high medical infrastructure, the latest technology and great human quality to provide the attention that the foreign market demands.

The medical and surgical procedure costs in Mexico are between 50 % and 80 % more economical than in the US. And although cost is not everything, they can offer service and attention with the best specialists and hospitals that equal the care that can be obtained in their country of origin.

In relation to the figure of businesses selling pharmaceuticals,  in the state exists approximately 2700 out of which 1588 are distributed between Tijuana, Rosarito and Tecate.
