The medical industry in Baja California attracts more than a million tourists per year
Baja California is an important region for the medical tourism sector. Just this state alone provides about 40% of the income for this sector in Mexico”. The health and wellness industry welcomes at least one million and a hundred thousand of people per year, especially tourist from United States and Canada who, in total, spend approximately 400 million dollars a year and create about six thousand jobs.
Ives Gabriel Levier Ramos, undersecretary of the Secretary of Tourism for the State of Baja California (SECTURE), said that this industry’s potential is growing at a significant rate and is already a very important subject for the main authorities. During this year, the state government will assign at least 2 million 350 thousand pesos to activities that contribute to the development of Baja’s medical industry.
Travelling for medical related reasons is the second most common reason why international visitors come to Tijuana, B.C., according to Oscar Jesus Escobedo Carignan, the secretary of SECTURE. What is most important about this kind of tourism, is that it attracts people from around the world to visit Baja’s hotels, restaurants, cultural centers, and more.
